Located in the leafy suburb of Ngaio, the owners of this family home wished to create a small extension to the east side of the house to accommodate a dining room, which the house lacked, and improve connection to the recently developed back yard. The new extension opens up the existing kitchen to create an open plan area which contains dining, living and home office spaces and has become the hub of this home. A sloping ceiling rises to the east where large timer sliding doors with over-lights flood the new space with natural light and provide much needed connection to the established outdoor area. Built in joinery and concealed cavity sliding doors are used to separate the new space from the existing bedroom zone, providing the owners with flexibility to close off this area when required.
